The papaya tree across from us.  The papayas will be ripe next summer!  Now spring is just beginning...a long wait.

Wash day (but every day is wash day) across from our office building.


This is what we pass every day as we walk 12-15 minutes up the hill to work:

1.  an equipment supply store--for weddings, funeral processions, etc.
2. a beauty shop (they cut my hair very short)
3.  "Gastro's" pizza place
4. a snack shop--pastries, ice cream
5. "La Toque Enchantee" restaurant
6.  a big souvenir store
7. a Malagasy art boutique
8. a clothing boutique
9. a police station
10. the tiny cell phone minutes stand
11. a hole-in-the-wall snack shop--French bread, rolls, assorted items

You may imagine a major street with all these attractions.  But it's only a narrow, dusty street with potholes, curbs on both sides with rocks and pebbles, dirt and sand on the "sidewalks" which narrow to a thin ribbon.  Except for a few spots, like in front of the restaurant, where there is a real concrete sidewalk which is swept every day.
I have only been to three of those places.  Nice to have more to look forward to. Not #9, of course.
