An Engagement

Last night Sr. Florine and I went to her home to celebrate the engagement of Adam Streeter and Fanja.  Sr. Florine's daughter, Njiva, had cooked a delicious dinner of seafood soup, roast chicken and Cantonese rice. She used to run a restaurant next door and gave the missionaries a special price to feed them lunch and dinner 6 days a week.  She picked up some English that way.

Adam served his mission here eleven years ago.  He liked Fanja then, but couldn't act on his feelings.  When he finished his mission, he emailed her for awhile but then they lost track of each other.

She reminds me of Natalie Wood.

Recently, after a failed marriage of three years, he decided to try to find her again.  Finally he was able to locate her brother and get in touch with her.  He found out she was still available and also still interested in him!  So he flew to Tana and asked her parents' permission to marry her.  And her permission too, of course.

They have spent the last two weeks running around the country being tourists, since he didn't get to do that when he was here before.  He will bring her home in three months on a fiancee visa and then marry her.  They will live in Utah.

They seem very happy together.  This is all Sr. Florine's family who were there for the evening.  We had a good time.
