Last night the Malagasy church employees and their families were invited to a Christmas party. I'm with the gate guard's daughter, Josefa, 5 years old. We adopted each other for the evening.
Elder Gray organized the games. The first one was "Pass the Parcel." He had wrapped a present in about seven layers of paper. We all sat in a circle and passed it around while the music played, and when it stopped whoever held it got to take off one layer of paper. A couple of candies fell out about six times, and then the final time this teddy bear appeared. Harisoa, Fred's wife, won it and you can see her reaction.
The second game was Musical Chairs. Here the final two contestants are competing for the last chair. It was declared a tie.
Santa Claus (Elder Tregeagle) gave bags of goodies from his big stocking to all the kids. Josefa kept examining hers. She didn't dare open it.
The Grays were facing a semi-circle of Malagasys singing Auld Lang Syne and a Malagasy farewell song, which ends up with all waving goodbye. It was a sweet ending to the party.
